A Hidden Life

Our review
This is the rare film that shows a saint's conscience from the inside. Franz refuses the oath because he cannot serve Christ and Hitler both. His wife Fani carries the cost with him, and the film honors her share in the sacrifice. One honest note: the priest and bishop counsel compliance, and the film lets that failure stand without comment. That is history, not slander. For teens and up.
For parents
Best for teens and adults; it runs nearly three hours and includes prison beatings and a guillotine. Ask: why did Franz refuse when his own priest said he could take the oath? What does Fani's yes cost her? CCC 1782 and 2242 on conscience and refusing unjust commands help.
