Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender

2026 · Lauren Montgomery · Animated fantasy adventure

Acceptable with guidance. Age: 10+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

Aang wins by mercy, not by force. He spares enemies he could crush, argues for peace over revenge, and helps a bitter old enemy find forgiveness. That is a good lesson told with beautiful animation. The reservation is the spiritual world behind it: reincarnation, talks with past lives, power drawn from a spirit and the recently dead revived by waterbending. Children need that framed.

For parents

Fine for most kids 10 and up who know the series; the genocide flashback and the field of dead bodies can upset younger ones. Explain that reincarnation is not true: we live once, then face God's judgment (CCC 1013). Ask: why did Aang spare Tagah? Who gives real power, and what is it for?
