Our review
Lightning McQueen is not the fastest car anymore. A new racer named Jackson Storm beats him, and Lightning has a very bad crash. He trains with a young coach named Cruz. He remembers what his old teacher Doc taught him and learns that helping someone else win can be the best prize. A champion faces getting older and learns to hand on what he was given. Honoring your teachers and lifting up the young is a good lesson for children and parents both. The crash near the start is intense, and the film sells a great many toys.

G, and Common Sense Media says six and up. Greydanus at Decent Films says Kids & Up. Things to know: Lightning has a long tumbling crash that leaves him a crumpled, smoking wreck, seen from a distance. Old newsreel shows Doc Hudson's crash too. A demolition derby has fire and aggressive vehicles. Plugged In logs 'Life's a beach, and then you drive,' 'shoot,' 'heck of a win' and 'son of a gun.' Common Sense Media adds 'loser,' 'shut up,' 'butt' and 'jerk.' Old racers sip oil in a car bar and someone mentions moonshiners. A credits bumper sticker reads 'Carmaste,' a play on a Hindu greeting. Cruz makes jokes about Lightning's age. Ask: who taught Lightning, and how does he pass it on? Why is it hard to let someone else shine? Who has taught you something you could teach another?
