Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood

2012 · Angela C. Santomero (creator) · Animated preschool series

Recommended. Age: 3+. A Catholic review of this show for parents.

Our review

A gentle heir to Mister Rogers. Every episode teaches a small virtue with a song a toddler can sing back: wait your turn, say sorry, calm down, be kind to a friend who is different. The new season adds asking before touching, a fine lesson in respect for persons. God is never named, so the why behind kindness is yours to add.

For parents

Made for preschoolers; Common Sense says 3 and up. Safe to hand over. Sing the strategy songs at home when tempers rise. Ask: why do we ask before we hug a friend? Add what the show leaves out: we are kind because God made each person and loves them, and Jesus taught us to love our neighbor.
