Disclosure Day

2026 · Steven Spielberg · Sci-fi thriller

Caution. Age: 18+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

Spielberg makes truth-telling heroic and shows nuns sheltering the hunted, and one nun gives a sound answer: other life in the universe would not undo our salvation. But the film calls its aliens supreme beings nearer to God, swaps faith for a vague cult of empathy, and misuses God's name about 30 times. Adults who know their faith can sort it out.

For parents

For adults, as the OSV News A-III says; teens should wait. Expect car chases, blood from beatings, an alien heard being tortured, an unmarried couple living together, and about 30 misuses of God's name. Ask: are the aliens really closer to God than we are? What does Christ becoming man say about our dignity?
