Our review
Finding Nemo is a father's story. Marlin loves his son so much that fear has taken over, and the ocean teaches him that love must also trust. Nemo's disobedience has real consequences, and his father's courage is real heroism. The letting go here is not permissive; it is a father learning to raise a son for freedom. The opening loss and the anglerfish can frighten small children.
For parents
For the whole family, with a hand to hold through the opening and the deep-sea scenes. Ask: why did Nemo touch the boat, and what did it cost? Ask what Marlin learned on the whale's tongue. CCC 2228, on educating children in the right use of freedom, fits this film.
