Gabby's Dollhouse

2021 · Traci Paige Johnson and Jennifer Twomey (creators); DreamWorks Animation Television · Preschool live-action and animated fantasy series

Acceptable. Age: 3+. A Catholic review of this show for parents.

Our review

A gentle, cheerful preschool show. Gabby is kind and encouraging, mistakes are treated as part of learning, and friends share and include each other. The new season's cat-and-dog playdate fits that pattern. The magic is toy make-believe, cat ears that shrink a girl into her dollhouse. The one reservation is the big toy line behind the show. No one has reviewed season 14 yet, so this verdict is provisional.

For parents

Fine for all ages from three. Nothing here needs correcting. Expect requests for the toys, since the show has a large merchandise line. Ask: how did Gabby help a friend who felt left out? Can cats and dogs be friends, and can we be friends with someone different from us?
