2020 · Laura Martin · Middle-grade time-travel adventure

Acceptable with guidance. Age: 10+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.

Our review

This is clean, fast science fiction that sends kids into real history and turns two rivals into friends. Readers report no swearing and no romance. The honest reservation is the premise itself: the heroes must make sure tragedies like Lincoln's murder still happen, which raises a real moral question the book does not answer from a Christian view.

For parents

Read aloud from 9, independent reading from 10. The publisher says 8 to 12, and Read-Aloud Revival suggests 10 and up. Ask why Regan and Elliot stop fighting each other. Ask whether it would be right to let a tragedy happen if you could stop it, and who truly holds history in his hands.
