Heart of the Beast
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 18+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A lean survival story about loyalty between a wounded veteran and the dog who served beside him. Each cares for the other's body and fears, and that self-giving love is the heart of it. The reservations: bloody wilderness violence, God's name misused five times, a revenge killing recalled without regret, and a fuzzy idea of the next life. Strong adult fare.
For parents
Adults per OSV; older teens maybe, with a parent. Spoiler for sensitive viewers: James dies near the end and Odin lives. Ask: what did James give up for Odin? Is revenge ever ours to take (Romans 12:19)? Explain that heaven is life with God first, and in Him with all the blessed (CCC 1024).
