Into Great Silence
Recommended. Age: All ages. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
Nothing is explained and nothing needs to be. For nearly three hours you live with the Carthusians: the night office, the cell, the snow, the Sunday meal and the play. A blind monk tells the camera about Christian happiness, trust in God's care, and the tragedy of a world that has lost faith. There is no reservation except patience. It asks a lot and gives more. Not for restless children.
For parents
Clean for any age, but its length and silence suit older kids and teens who can sit with it, in two parts if needed. Ask: why would a man give up speech for God? What does the blind monk mean by happiness? CCC 2717 on contemplative prayer gives the key.
