It's Not Like That
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this show for parents.
Our review
A warm, sincere family drama where faith is real. Malcolm preaches grace while admitting his own struggle, a bullied boy prays for his tormentors, and a mother tells her kids their father is not the bad guy. Grief is handled with care. The reservation is the slow-building romance between the pastor and a recently divorced woman, framed as a fresh start, which a Catholic family needs to talk through.
For parents
For teens and up, best watched together. Common Sense Media says 13 and up. One teen has a history of cutting herself. Talk about divorce: a valid marriage lasts until death, even after a civil divorce (CCC 2382-2386). Ask: why did Justin pray for the bullies? What does Malcolm's grief teach about hope?
