LION

2026 · Jon Favreau and Michael Gunton (executive producers, National Geographic) · Nature docuseries, miniseries

Acceptable. Age: 8+. A Catholic review of this show for parents.

Our review

A beautiful look at God's creation. Kio's mother protects him, his brothers stick together, and the pride shares what it catches. Courage and loyalty come through without preaching. The reservation is sadness, not sin: hunts, fights and a mother's grave wound in episode three can upset young children.

For parents

Good for most kids 8 and up. Watch episode three with younger or sensitive children, because Kio's mother is badly hurt by a buffalo. Ask: how did the lions take care of each other? What do the beauty and the danger of the wild tell us about the God who made it?
