Lost in Peter's Tomb

2006 · Dianne Ahern · Catholic children's mystery

Recommended. Age: 8+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.

Our review

This is a simple mystery that walks children through St. Peter's Basilica and the life of the first pope. A religious sister is the hero and the Church is home ground. The reservation is that it is a light series book told in the present tense, and no content log exists. A parent should skim the theft scenes first.

For parents

Read aloud from 6, independent reading from 8. Good Books for Catholic Kids lists it for 8 to 9. Ask why the Church keeps and honors the bones of St. Peter. Ask what Jesus meant when he called Peter the rock (Matthew 16:18). Look at photos of the basilica together afterward.
