Marty, Life Is Short
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 16+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A warm portrait of a funny man who lost his brother, both parents and his wife, and kept choosing joy. Short comes across as a devoted husband and father, and the film honors a long, faithful marriage. That is worth seeing. The reservation is the language: frequent f-words and the Lord's name used as a curse. Reviewers do not say whether the film speaks of God, so ask your teens where lasting joy comes from.
For parents
For older teens and adults. Common Sense Media says 14 and up; Lumen says 16 for the steady profanity and misuse of Christ's name. Ask: where does joy come from when life hurts? How is choosing joy different from receiving it? What did Short's marriage teach about faithfulness?
