Moana
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
Moana is brave, and she sails for her people, not for herself. Maui, the boastful demigod, learns humility, owns his theft, helps set it right and stops asking to be worshiped. The reservation is the whole spiritual frame: a creation goddess, a thinking ocean that chooses Moana and hears her almost like a prayer, ancestor spirits who guide her, and a grandmother reborn as a manta ray.
For parents
Lumen and OSV News place it at 13 and up; Common Sense says 8+. If a younger child sees it anyway, talk it through. Explain that God alone made and rules the sea, and that we live one life, then judgment, not rebirth. Ask: how did Maui make things right? Where does real courage come from?
