Paul, Apostle of Christ

2018 · Andrew Hyatt · Biblical drama

Recommended. Age: 14+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

Paul waits for death and teaches a hunted church to love the men killing them. The film shows grace doing its work: a persecutor forgiven, a Roman jailer drawn toward the faith, and Christians who refuse revenge. Catholic viewers will notice the Eucharist. The reservation is the violence, which is bloody, and a script that turns famous lines of Scripture into Paul's off-hand talk.

For parents

For teens and adults. Christians are burned and beaten, Paul is beheaded, and rape and prostitution are spoken of. Read Acts 9 and 2 Timothy 4 beforehand. Ask: why do the Christians refuse to fight back? How can Paul, who helped kill Stephen, be sure he is forgiven?
