Rudy

1993 · David Anspaugh · Sports drama

Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

Rudy is about showing up every day when nobody thinks you belong. He works, he prays, and a priest counsels and helps him. The priest's line is the best in the film: there is a God, and I am not Him. The reservation is the language, including God's name misused, and a dream chased as if it were everything.

For parents

For teens. Common Sense Media says eleven and up. Warn kids about the swearing and tell them God's name is holy (CCC 2146). Ask: what did Rudy give his team that talent could not? Is any dream worth everything? Note that the jersey scene never happened in real life.
