Star Wars
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 8+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
Good and evil are drawn in bright lines, and the virtues are real: Luke's courage, Han's late loyalty, Obi-Wan laying down his life so the others can go. The problem is the Force. It is an energy field, not a Father, and the film asks you to trust it as a believer trusts God. Kids absorb that frame without noticing. Say it out loud and the film becomes a gift.
For parents
Ages eight and up. One conversation does the work: the Force is a thing, God is a Someone who knows your name. Ask who Luke is really trusting when he switches off the targeting computer. Note the cantina arm and the burned bodies for sensitive children. CCC 285 on pantheism.
