Take It to the Queen: A Tale of Hope

2008 · Josephine Nobisso · Catholic picture book, Marian allegory

Acceptable with guidance. Age: 8+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.

Our review

This fable shows children why Catholics go to Mary. A village ruins itself by pride, and its own queen carries the people's poor gifts and sorrow to the king. The allegory teaches hope and her intercession well. The reservation: it compresses the story of salvation into court roles, and its notes draw on Luisa Piccarreta, whose writings are still under Church review.

For parents

Read aloud from 5, independent reading from 8. Older children get more from the symbols. Say plainly that Mary is our Mother and Queen because her Son is King, and that she brings us to Jesus, the one Mediator (CCC 969-970). Jesus is not harder to reach than His Mother. Ask what the villagers forgot. Pray a Hail Mary after.
