The Brink of War

2026 · Michael Russell Gunn · Historical political drama

Acceptable with guidance. Age: 13+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.

Our review

A talky, well-acted history lesson about two flawed men trying to pull the world back from nuclear war. Reagan speaks of rights that come from God and presses for the freedom of Jews and Christians to leave the Soviet Union. Peace and human dignity are the heart of it. The reservation: Gorbachev's claim that Jesus was a socialist and Nancy's horoscope pass without correction.

For parents

Best for teens and history-minded families. Some mild swearing and smoking; nothing violent on screen. Correct two things: Jesus is God made man, not a political program, and astrology is a form of divination the Church tells us to reject (CCC 2116). Ask: why did Reagan say our rights come from God? What does it take to make peace with an enemy?
