The Cabin Faced West

Our review
A short, sunny story about a girl who wants to go home and learns to make home where she is. Ann's homesickness is real, and so is the work of a frontier farm. She grows out of complaining into gratitude and pluck. Jean Fritz wrote it about her own ancestor. The one small reservation is that God is barely in view.
For parents
Read aloud from 6, independent reading from 8. Common Sense Media finds nothing to worry about. Ask Ann what changed her mind about the cabin. Ask your child what we are thankful for when a move or a change feels hard, and who is with us there (CCC 2637).
