Our review
A Catholic convert wrote this adventure, and it shows in the best way. Catherine meets Catholics who live their faith and others who only wear it, and she learns to tell them apart. Courage, loyalty and mercy drive the plot. The one reservation is small: a villain drugs a man's drink, and the family quarrels are bitter enough to need a word.
For parents
Read aloud from 8, independent reading from 10. Good Books for Catholic Kids says ages 9 to 14 and Seton sells the set for grades 5 to 9. Ask which characters practice their faith and which only use it. Ask why Catherine keeps loving a grandfather who is hard to love.
