The Odyssey

Our review
This is Homer's homecoming story told with real seriousness. Hospitality to strangers, a faithful wife, a son who grows up, and a proud king who owns his offense against hospitality and sees ruin follow an unjust war: these are true goods. The gods are pagan and cruel, and the film includes gory battles, a human sacrifice in flashback and a few F-words. It is a film for adults.
For parents
For adults, with older teens a parent's call for the school-reading connection, as OSV suggests. Expect gore and a few strong words. Ask: why does breaking the law of hospitality bring ruin? How is Penelope's faithfulness a picture of marriage? How does the true God differ from these jealous gods?
