The Rise and Fall of Mount Majestic
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 9+. A Catholic review of this book for parents.
Our review
A wry fairy tale about a girl with too much imagination, a friend with too much worry, and a king with too much pepper. The satire pokes at greed, pride and extremes, and the island is saved only when quarreling peoples cooperate. The magic is a sleeping giant and a magic pot, fairy-tale furniture. The reservation: no content review exists, so read ahead.
For parents
Read it aloud from 7, and alone from 9. Kirkus says 9 to 13; the author says 8 to 11. No content log exists, so read the first chapters yourself. Ask what the greedy king's pepper shows about gluttony. Ask why Persimmony and Worvil need each other.
