The Trouble with Angels
Recommended. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
This is a rare Hollywood comedy that ends with a girl choosing the convent and treats that choice as the happiest one in the film. The nuns are real women with histories, and Reverend Mother is firm and loving. One reservation: the first hour is mostly pranks, with girls sneaking cigarettes and a few leering 1960s sight gags.
For parents
Good for ages ten and up, and best for girls ten to fourteen. Dove says twelve. Say plainly that the smoking and the sneaking are wrong. Ask: when does Mary begin to see the sisters differently? What did each nun give up, and what did she receive?
