Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass
Acceptable with guidance. Age: 6+. A Catholic review of this movie for parents.
Our review
A loud, crowded cartoon with a decent heart. Tom and Jerry drop their feud to protect a village, and a fallen hero gives himself up for others. The reservation is the setting. The story runs on Chinese myth: Tom is taken for a god, and a disgraced god tries to earn his way back into heaven. A young child can absorb that picture of heaven without help.
For parents
Fine for most kids six and up, with a parent nearby for the giant rat and the fire scenes. Tell your children the gods here are make-believe: there is one God, and heaven is His gift, not a prize we earn alone. Ask: why did Tom and Jerry stop fighting? Is getting drunk funny?
