Our review
WALL-E is a little robot who cleans up trash on an empty Earth. He meets a robot named EVE and follows her into space, where people have forgotten how to work and care for each other. WALL-E is brave and loving, and he helps bring everyone home. One of Pixar's finest, and its heart is sound. It shows love as self-gift, work as part of human dignity, and the Earth as something we are given to tend. The Adam, Eve and Noah echoes are there on purpose. Content is very mild.
For parents
G-rated. Decent Films says Kids & Up and Common Sense Media says 5+. There is almost no dialogue for the first act, which very young children may find slow. Expect laser blasts, explosions, chases and a fight between the captain and the ship's autopilot, all cartoonish. WALL-E is badly damaged near the end, which may upset tender viewers. One quick gag has him put on a bra from the trash. Plugged In logs only 'heck,' 'darn' and 'golly.' Tell your children that the Earth is a gift we are meant to tend, and that work is good for us. Ask: why is WALL-E lonely? What have the people on the ship forgotten? How does EVE remind you of the dove Noah sent out?
